As automation and 4IR transforms the apparel industry, trade unions must take the lead in addressing its effects on workers. Understanding the importance of their input, Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF), with support from Solidaridad, organized a consultation dialogue with trade union leaders on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
The dialogue centered around initial insights from a study conducted by BLF in collaboration with BRAC University, which examined the impact of automation in Bangladesh’s apparel sector. The discussion was engaging and insightful, with union leaders sharing valuable perspectives based on their root level experiences. By incorporating their feedback into our findings, we can ensure that our study is both authentic and well-rounded. We also discussed how trade unions can play a crucial role in policy-making to ensure that workers are protected and safe during this transition period.
